SERMON SUMMARY – Chrisy Ennen
Romans 13:8-14 – As we wake up, we are intentional to make sure we are abiding in Christ and are attached to the vine. But that isn't all there is, and Paul tells us as much in this passage.
What happens when we are awake? We are engaged in a life filled with love. The scripture starts with a reminder that we are to owe no one anything except love and it ends with a call to put on Christ and not indulge in selfish desires. This leads me to believe that waking up involves being other-centered and offering the kind of love that was defined for us when Christ went to the cross.
And this love isn't conditional. We don't get to pick and choose who and how we love. Christ offers His love to all, and that is how we are to love as well. The problem comes when we don't actually love others as we love ourselves. Our job is not to judge. Our job is not to figure out if someone deserves something. Our job is to lift the fallen, to restore the broken, to heal the hurting. Our job is to love our neighbor as ourselves.
It's time to embrace everyone. Listen to their stories, their struggles, their joys, their hardships, and their hopes. It's time to walk alongside them and work as ardently for their good as we work for our own. It's time to champion their cause as enthusiastically as we champion our own.

WJLY FALL FESTIVAL LOCATION
Some were asking about the location of the Fall Festival that was in the bulletin recently. The Fall Festival is being held at the WJLY station.  To find WJLY, travel 1/4 mile south of Ramsey. Turn off of Rout 51 onto road #2725. Look for a log-cabin building under the radio tower.

SIMPLE ROOM REQUEST
The church and the Simple Room have begun conversations about partnering in such a way that the Simple Room programming could take place in the church building. These are preliminary conversations and the Session would like to hear from the congregation regarding their input and any questions that they may have. Please talk with Kurt, Chrisy, or any member of the Session about your thoughts and questions.

PRAYER CHAIN
Did you know our church has a prayer chain ministry? If you would like to be included on the list of people called upon to pray when prayer requests arise, let Linda know, in the church office. If you are currently on the list, and would like to be removed, you may let Linda know that as well.

SEMINARY EDUCATION FUND
The Session has created a Seminary Education Fund to help supplement the cost of theological degrees pursued by members of First Presbyterian Church. Any monies given to this fund will be used to supplement the expenses of obtaining a theological degree. Gifts to this fund are tax-deductible. Currently, Chrisy Ennen is studying in the Masters of Divinity program at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and is approved to receive assistance from this fund. If you would like to make a donation, checks may be made payable to First Presbyterian Church with "Seminary Education Fund" on the memo line. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Katy Wise, the session-appointed overseer of this fund.
